　１８世紀、西洋では高炉による製鉄が盛んになります。日本では幕末にオランダ人将校ヒューゲニンが書いた技術書「ルイク国立鋳砲所における鋳造法」が輸入され大島高任を始め複数の人によって翻訳されます。その技術書をもとに各地で高炉が建設されます。安政元年には鹿児島の集成館。安政３年には北海道の古武井に建設されますが成功には至りませんでした。
　大島高任は岩手県釜石市大橋で地元の豪商らの出資により安政4年に高炉を建設し、１２月１日に出銑に成功します。これが日本で初めての洋式高炉による製鉄に成功した日です。

However, the reverberator in Mito was closed by the coup d'etat that occurred in 1858, and the demand for iron decreased sharply. The Hashino blast furnace became management by domain and expanded the scale in April, 1859.

No.1 blast furnace and No.2 blast furnace were constructed in July, 1860, a temporary blast furnace was repaired, and it made it to No.3 blast furnace. Coinage plant is established in Kuribayashi and Hashino respectively in 1868.
The manager became Gonemon Ono. It boasted of the steel manufacture ability of 1,125 tons during year with three blast furnaces , about 1,000 worker and 150 cows, and 50 horses.

Large-scale illegal coinage was done in the Hashino blast furnace though the government put out the coinage ban in 1969. However, illegal coinage came to light in 1971 and coinage plant became out of business.

The Hashino blast furnace was absorbed to the Tanaka steel manufacture by beginning the Kurihashi ironworks in 1974, and the history of the Hashino blast furnace of 36 years ended.

The excavation investigation was done from 1955 and 1956 by Kahei Mori and Gen Itabashi of The University of Iwate, and it became a ruins designated as a national historical relic site on June 3, 1957.
